['fəːnɪhəʊ], Brian, britischer Komponist, * Coventry 16. 1. 1943; studierte in London und Basel (K. Huber), lehrte 1973-86 (seit 1978 Professor) an der Musikhochschule in Freiburg im Breisgau und wurde 1987 Musikprofessor an der University of California in San Diego. Seine äußerst komplex strukturierten Kompositionen gehen von der seriellen Technik aus. Er schrieb u. a. »Prometheus« für Bläsersextett (1967), »Epicycle« für 20 Streicher (1968), »Firecycle beta« für Orchester (1969-71), »Cassandra's dream song« für Flöte (1970), »Time and motion study I-III« (1971-77), »Carceri d'invenzione I-III« (1982-86), »Terrain« für Solovioline und Ensemble (1992), »Maison noires« (1993).
